Scheduled tasks, persistent memory, and an AI front desk that undercuts agencies by thousands a month.

Main

ChatGPT just got a lot more useful for small teams, and the update is worth paying attention to.

OpenAI rolled out two changes to ChatGPT Business that move it from "fancy search box" to something that can actually run recurring work without you manually prompting it every time. First: scheduled tasks. You set it up once, and ChatGPT sends you an end-of-day email recap, a weekly industry brief, project alerts, whatever you need. It only pings you when something is actually worth reporting. Second: memory got smarter. It now automatically refreshes context from past conversations, so you're not constantly re-explaining your business to a tool that should already know. There's also a unified Scheduled sidebar where you can see and manage everything in one place.

That second part matters more than it sounds. The old memory system was prone to storing stale or contradictory information, like a filing cabinet stuffed with outdated notes. The new version cleans house automatically, and you can correct, delete, or shut it off if needed. For a small team that uses ChatGPT daily, this is the difference between a tool that forgets you every morning and one that actually learns how your business works.

The other story worth your full attention is Pie, a startup built by former Square and Toast operators that just came out of stealth with $23.7 million in funding. Their product, Front Desk, answers your phone 24/7, takes bookings, and handles customer questions. That part alone is useful. But the more interesting piece is what they call AI Search.

Here's what's happening in local discovery: people used to search Google Maps or Yelp to find a plumber, a restaurant, a yoga studio. More and more, they're asking ChatGPT or Claude directly. "Who's a good accountant near me?" The AI answers. If your business isn't showing up in those answers, you're invisible in a channel that's growing fast. Pie helps small businesses get found in ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity, not just Google.

Pricing isn't published, but they say it undercuts agencies that charge $2,500 to $5,000 per month for the same work. If you're paying an agency for local SEO and reputation management, this is worth a look.

One more thing to flag, especially if you're using AI-generated audio in ads or social content. TIDAL just announced that starting July 15, tracks that are 100% AI-generated will get an "AI" badge, get removed from direct-to-fan sales, and stop earning royalties. Their EVP said listeners don't want it. Shelly Palmer's take at shellypalmer.com is sharp: the real problem is that AI music costs almost nothing to make, so the volume will be enormous, and the "100% AI" threshold is easy to game (add one guitar line, suddenly you're hybrid). Spotify and the major labels are heading toward a harder version of this same fight, involving contract rewrites and audit rights.

The practical takeaway for owners using AI audio tools: hybrid production, meaning AI-assisted but with at least some human element, is quickly becoming the safer commercial standard. Fully AI-generated audio is getting flagged and blocked, and that trend is not reversing.
