The audience is paying attention. Here's what that means for your content, your costs, and your competitive edge.

LinkedIn users just built their own AI slop detector. On July 30th, LinkedIn quietly added a "Seems like AI slop" flag to posts. In the weeks since, users have clicked it over one million times. One million. That's not a rounding error. That's your customers and prospects actively telling the internet they can smell a low-effort AI post from ten feet away. If you're using AI to draft your LinkedIn content and then hitting publish without actually editing it, this is the wake-up call. The fix isn't to stop using AI. It's to stop publishing the first draft. Read it out loud. Kill the bullet points that sound like a press release. Add something only you would say. That's now your competitive edge, because most people posting aren't doing that.

The price of building AI into your business just dropped. OpenAI permanently cut prices on its most powerful model. Input costs fell 20 percent to $4 per million tokens, and output costs fell 33 percent to $20 per million tokens. "Tokens" are just chunks of text, roughly three-quarters of a word each. If you're not building on the API yet this doesn't move your needle today, but if you're running automations, chatbots, or anything custom built on top of OpenAI, your bill just got meaningfully smaller. The pricing is locked through at least November 2026, which matters if you're trying to budget a project. A good time to revisit anything you shelved because the numbers didn't work.

The gap between early adopters and everyone else is widening. Meta ran in-person AI training for more than 150 Central Florida small businesses as part of its SMB program. A U.S. Chamber survey cited in the piece found 61 percent of Florida small businesses already use an AI platform, and 78 percent expect it to help them grow. The training push is interesting, but the number that stuck with me is the 39 percent not yet using anything. That gap is exactly where the competitive pressure is building. The owners who got a year of reps in already are not waiting for the laggards to catch up.
