Your Customers Are Scared of Your AI (And the Numbers Prove It)

A new Pew study just reframed how visible AI use lands with real buyers.

The majority flipped, and they flipped fast. Pew Research just published a study of 3,488 U.S. adults, and the headline is this: 52% are now more concerned than excited about AI. Back in 2021, that number was 37%. That's a 15-point swing in five years, and it includes the group that used to be AI's biggest cheerleaders. Adults under 30 were once the least worried cohort. Today, 55% of them are concerned, and 73% expect AI to take jobs. If you've been assuming younger customers are your safe audience for AI-forward marketing, that assumption just cracked. Full Pew findings here.

The practical piece: only 19% of Americans view AI in advertising positively (that's a Gallup number). Posts mocking obviously AI-generated flyers are racking up millions of views. This doesn't mean stop using AI. It means think carefully about where customers can see it. Your back office, your drafts, your research, your automations that don't show? Keep going. But that AI-generated ad image, the chatbot greeting on your site, the clearly templated email blast? Worth a second look at how it's actually landing before you scale it up.

Speed is real. Standing out is getting harder. Adobe surveyed 16,000-plus creators across eight countries for their 2026 Creators' Toolkit Report, and the productivity case for AI is basically closed. 93% say it speeds content production. 87% say it's helped grow their business or audience, up from 76% just last year. 40% report that AI-assisted work consistently outperforms their non-AI work.

Here's the rub: 53% of creators also say it's harder to stand out now, and 42% blame AI-generated posts crowding the feed. So the tool that speeds up your content is also speeding up everyone else's. The owners winning in that environment are the 57% who edit heavily before publishing. Think of it this way: AI gives you the clay, but if you don't shape it, you're publishing the same lump as everyone else. Your voice, your specific customer stories, your takes, those are the edit. The full Adobe report breakdown is here.

Tools Worth a Look

Supernova: Connects your live business data (Stripe, HubSpot, PostgreSQL, 30+ others) directly to Claude and Codex, so anyone on your team can ask plain-English questions and get analysis back. No data analyst, no SQL required. Good fit for owners who want to actually use their numbers without hiring for it. Price not listed.

More Headlines

Ramp launched Router.com, an AI model router that claims 40% lower cost for the same output quality by automatically picking the best model per task. Worth watching if you're using multiple AI tools or building on the API, especially given Stripe acquired a similar service (OpenRouter) the same day.

Semrush is running a free live webinar on September 9 (9 AM PDT / 11 AM EST) on how to align AI-optimized content and traditional SEO into one prompt strategy. Directly useful if you're trying to show up in both Google and AI search results.

Forbes profiled GovKodo, a founder who used AI to build a tool they'd always wanted but couldn't afford to commission. Good read if you're sitting on a product idea that felt out of reach.

AI Acquisition launched a multi-agent system that coordinates lead gen, sales coaching, and customer delivery for small businesses. Multi-agent means several AI systems handing tasks off to each other automatically, like a small team that never clocks out.

Stripe's August 2026 investor letter calls January 2026 an inflection point and explains the OpenRouter acquisition. If you want to understand where the infrastructure of AI tools is heading, this is a candid read from the inside.

MarketBlazer.ai launched an AI-powered marketing platform aimed at SMBs. Atlanta-based, focused on pulling marketing and business operations into one place.

Berd by Block is a new Mac app combining project folders, AI agent characters, and a pinboard for task management. Developer-leaning, but worth a look if you want something more visual than a chat interface for managing AI-assisted work.
