Your Website Is Invisible to AI Search (And You Don't Know It)

How a single technical quirk is quietly erasing small businesses from the new AI-powered web.
Main
Most small business owners assume that if Google can find their site, so can AI. That assumption is wrong, and it's starting to cost people real traffic.
Semrush just published a guide explaining that ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, and Perplexity only read raw HTML. Not JavaScript. That matters because a huge chunk of modern websites, especially ones built on platforms like Webflow, React, or any fancy page builder, load their actual content through JavaScript. Your service descriptions, your pricing pages, your product catalog. If that content only appears after JavaScript runs, AI crawlers see a blank page. Literally nothing.
Think of it this way: raw HTML is the printed text on a physical menu. JavaScript is the waiter who reads you the specials. AI crawlers only read the printed menu. If your best dishes are only in the specials, they don't exist as far as AI is concerned.
This matters right now because AI Overviews in Google, and AI-driven discovery in general, are starting to generate real traffic. If you want to show up when someone asks ChatGPT "who does kitchen remodels in Denver" or "best local accountant near me," your content has to be readable. Semrush's guide walks through how to audit your site. Worth an hour of your time.
The other story worth sitting with this week is the Claude situation. VentureBeat reports that Anthropic's new Claude model, called Fable 5, now completes 16.1% of professional remote work tasks per the Center for AI Safety's Remote Labor Index. That's apparently double its closest rival. Impressive number.
But the more interesting part of the story is what happened when enterprises lost access to Claude for a few weeks during a government-imposed halt. Two-thirds of them had already shifted critical workflows to open-weight or self-hosted models. In plain language: they'd already built a backup. They weren't caught flat-footed.
If you're running a small business and Claude (or any single AI tool) is now baked into how you do real work, that's worth thinking about. Not in a panic way. Just the same way you'd think about what happens if your only payment processor goes down. Single points of failure are fine until they aren't. Know what you'd do if your main AI tool disappeared for two weeks.
New Tools
Glaze by Raycast: Describe what you want in plain English and it builds a real Mac app that sits in your dock. Custom dashboards, calculators, quick-look tools, no developer needed. For Mac users.
Context.dev: Gives AI workflows live, clean web data: scrape any URL as readable text, pull brand assets, crawl sitemaps. For owners building or customizing AI automations who don't want to babysit fragile scraping scripts.
Archify: Shows you what a web app is actually made of, its components, APIs, and libraries, right inside your browser. For non-technical owners who've inherited software and need to understand it fast.
More Headlines
Sam Altman wants to give the U.S. government a 5% stake in OpenAI and is pushing Anthropic, Google, and Meta to match it as part of a broader international AI safety push. Early stage and needs Congress, but worth watching.
Anthropic added spend controls to Claude for Enterprise: admins can now track which models employees are using and how much, with a direct Datadog integration. If you've handed out Claude access to your team, this is how you see the bill coming before it lands.
Vizard updated its AI Studio in June with per-platform post styling, GPT Images 2.0, and Happy Horse video generation. Good if you're already using Vizard for short-form video content.
AI is forcing small businesses to clean up their data: cloud-first SMBs are finding that AI tools only work as well as the data you feed them, and messy pipelines are the number one reason AI investments underperform.
